What is Osteopathy?

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a holistic, manual therapy based on the principles of American physician Andrew Taylor Still. It views the body as a functional unit and looks not just for symptoms, but for their causes. With trained hands, the osteopath feels tensions, blockages and movement restrictions in the tissue.

History of Osteopathy

Osteopathy was founded in 1874 by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still in the USA. Still recognized that many diseases arise from disorders in the musculoskeletal system and circulation. Today, osteopathy is recognized worldwide and is practiced in Germany by naturopaths and physicians with additional training.

How Does Osteopathy Work?

The Four Fundamental Principles

The Body is a Unity

All structures and systems of the body are interconnected and influence each other.

Structure and Function

The structure of the body determines its function — and vice versa. Misalignments lead to dysfunction.

Self-Healing Powers

The body has the ability to heal itself. The osteopath supports and activates these powers.

Arterial Supply

Good blood flow and supply to all tissues is the foundation for health.

Costs & Reimbursement

An osteopathic treatment at our practice costs between 80 and 100 euros. The initial treatment takes about 60 minutes, follow-up treatments about 45 minutes.

Many statutory health insurers reimburse part of the costs for osteopathic treatments (typically 3–6 sessions per year). Private health insurers and supplementary insurance often cover the costs in full. Please check with your insurance provider.
